GNRS Spring Meeting – updated

Doncaster Council

The Spring Meeting is upon us again! This year we will be at the Danum Gallery in Doncaster, and we are very much looking forward to seeing as many members there as possible. If you can’t make it, then we are also looking at providing access to the meeting via the internet. Details of how to access the meeting online will be posted on the forum.

Headline Speaker Adrian Gray

We are pleased to welcome Adrian Gray, the author of the book East Coast Main Line Disasters, as our main speaker. Adrian is a Cambridge educated historian who specialises in the counties of Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, as well as national issues.

Adrian Gray will talk about significant accidents on the GNR and how they influenced railway safety from the first serious derailment and including some of the best known incidents as well as some obscure ones.

I am sure that it will be a great talk to come and listen to and even, hopefully, the opportunity to purchase his book as well.

Member Presentations

Many of you have really interesting collections that would also be of interest to many other members. Should anyone want to offer themselves for a headline talk, please contact a committee member and we will be very happy to have a conversation about it. But many of us have items that they could give a brief explanation of for 5 to 10 minutes and further discussions could be had afterwards at our public meetings. If we have sufficient interest shown on this front we would like to do this at every public meeting so members can see what others are interested in and also to inspire others. Please do bring something of a favourite of yours, such as something of GNR significance to the next meeting you attend. We would love to find out more about your own collection. If you would like to give a short presentation, please contact Chas.

Danum Gallery

The Great Northern Railway Society’s Spring meeting will be held at the Danum Gallery,  for those not familiar with the Danum Gallery, it is home to the Railway Heritage Centre which currently houses the NRM Ivatt No 251 Atlantic. It also has the Gresley Green Arrow and a host of other Doncaster railwayana so you will have a chance to view these treasures at the same time.

The event will start at 10.30 and will include, for GNRS members only, a Special General Meeting for the election of a Secretary for the Society, the official Notice and Agenda appeared in GNN254. No other formal business shall be dealt with.

Virtual Meeting

As part of our further innovations, we are hoping to be able to stream the meeting online, at least in part, so that members can join those of us able to attend the meeting in person. This is something we will trial at this meeting and we hope to have ironed out any creases in our planning so that our AGMs and other future public meetings are available in a similar format so we can include more members. For those who are interested in receiving the link, please contact Chas via the secretary@gnrsociety.com email address.

There will be a GNRS exhibition stand present at this event. We hope to see you there.
