A facsimile copy of the “Great Northern Railway Particulars of Great Northern Railway Coaching Stock – April, 1906” publication with an added section of photographs to illustrate the types of vehicle listed in the publication.
An original of this publication is held in the GNRS archive, the reason behind its production is a mystery but it could be considered as a census of “Coaching Stock” at the time of Nigel Gresley becoming Carriage and Wagon Superintendent of the GNR.
Stock is listed by type: Saloons, Dining Cars etc with sections for Suburban stock and non-passenger carrying vehicles. There are 3406 vehicles listed under the various types. Alongside each vehicle number, particulars are given of the seating accommodation, braking arrangements, weight, overall dimensions, wheel arrangement and the year built. The information in this document supplements that provided in the GNRS “Coaching Stock File (CSF) “and “Wagons Pictorial (WP) publications.
A photographic section has been provided to follow the facsimile publication, this section is produced by providing sample photographs of vehicles noted in the type sections e.g. Saloons, Third Class, Horseboxes etc with information provided noting the relevant CSF or WP where further information will be obtained.
