Great Northern Railway (The) Volume I Origins and Development

by John Wrottesley

This is one of a series of three volumes by Wrottesley which span the whole of the GNR period and are a more modern historical account of the company which is an excellent accompaniment to Grinling’s classic work.

Clearly, this was written with Grinling in mind, but it has the benefit of a modern historian’s access to archives that were not available in earlier times. All three are excellent reads, very informative and a GNR student would benefit from having them on their shelves.

Out of print, but readily available from most online secondhand sellers Рprices vary but they can usually be purchased for under £15 each and often significantly less.
